Last month we took two trips, one to the Brooklyn Public Library, and one to the Studio Museum in Harlem to learn about different aspects of the sites themselves, as well as the resources within. Constructivist theory, cooperative learning and other cognitive strategies are methods used by educators to help young learners develop understanding and make their own meanings of the importance of place and project-based learning. Using our trip examples, describe a learning experience for each location (based on what you saw/experienced) you might develop and discuss how you might use these methods (constructivist theory, cooperative learning, cognitive strategies) to teach about place, and/or place or project-based learning.
